Did you know that the croissant originated in Vienna? And what about the rum baba, which was created when Louis XV’s father-in-law soaked a dry brioche in rum?
The rise of patisserie is also driven by star chefs such as Pierre Hermé and Christophe Michalak. The success of TV programmes such as ‘Le Meilleur Pâtissier’ is testament to the growing enthusiasm for this sweet art form.

With a PhD in microbiology, Ukrainian-born Kateryna Kon showed a keen interest from an early age in studying the influence of the micro-world on human health.
As both a researcher and a lecturer, Kateryna regularly used illustrations to bring her lessons to life, until one day one of them turned out to be a money-spinner. Her mind was made up: she had to create her own images.
After several years of learning the ropes, Kateryna has been working as a full-time medical illustrator since 2017, having stepped away from her academic work.
